Knowing God

Step 1: God's Purpose - Peace and Life

God loves you and wants you to experience peace and eternal life.

The Bible says: "… we have peace with God our Lord Jesus Christ." Romans 5:1

"For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him may not die but have eternal life." John 3:16

Since God planned for us to have peace and the full life right now, why are most people not having it?

Step 2: Our Problem - Separation

God created us to be like Him and enjoy life. He did not force us to love and obey Him, but gave us a will and freedom of choice.

The first man and woman chose to disobey God and go their own willful way. We still make this choice today. This results in separation from God.

The Bible says: "Everyone has sinned and is far away from God's saving presence." Romans 3:23

"For sin pays its wage—death; but God's free gift is eternal life in union with Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 6:23

Through the ages, individuals have tried in many ways to cross this gap … without success …

Our decision results in separation from God.

Step 3: God's Answer - Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is the only answer to this problem. He died on the Cross and rose from the grave, took the punishment for our sin and bridged the gap between God and man.

The Bible says: "For there is one God, and there is one who brings God and mankind together, the man Christ Jesus." 1 Timothy 2:5

"But God has shown us how much he loves us—it was while we were still sinners that Christ died for us! " Romans 5:8

There is only one way of getting across this gap.

Step 4: Our Response - Receive Christ

We must trust Jesus Christ and receive Him by personal surrender and invitation.

The Bible says (Christ is speaking):

"Listen! I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come into his house and eat with him, and he will eat with me. " Revelation 3:20

"Some, however, did receive him and believed in him; so he gave them the right to become God's children. " John 1:12

Where are You?

Beginning with Christ

Is there any good reason why you do not want to invite Jesus Christ into your life right now?

How to begin your life with Christ:

1. Admit your condition (I am a sinner).

2. Be willing to turn from your sins (repent).

3. Believe that Jesus Christ died for you on the cross and rose from the grave.

4. Through prayer, invite Jesus Christ to come in and control your life through the Holy Spirity. (Receive Him as Lord and Saviour.)

Confessing Christ

The Bible says: "If you confess that Jesus is Lord and believe that God raised Him from death, you will be saved." Romans 10:9

Example of what to pray (Make it your prayer):

Dear Lord Jesus,

I know that I am a sinner and need Your forgiveness. I believe that You died for my sins. I want to turn from my sins. I now invite You to come in my life. I trust You as Saviour and follow You as Lord.

Thank you, Lord, for saving me. Amen.

God's Assurance - His Word

If you prayed this prayer, the Bible says: "Everyone who calls out to the Lord for help will be saved. " Romans 10:13

"For it is by God's grace that you have been saved through faith. It is not the result of your own efforts, but God's gift, so that no one can boast about it. " Ephesians 2:8,9

Did you sincerely ask Jesus Christ to come into your life? Where is He right now? What has He given you?

The Bible says: "Whoever has the Son has this life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. I am writing this to you so that you may know thay you have eternal life—you that believe in the Son of God. " 1 John 5:12,13

Walking with God

This is the beginning of a wonderful life in Christ. To deepen this walk with Christ:

1. Read your Bible every day to get to know Christ better.

2. Talk to God in prayer every day.

3. Be controlled by the Holy Spirit.

4. Tell others about Christ.

5. Share your new life by your love and concern for others.

6. Find another Christian or two with whom you can pray and share regularly your successes and failures.

7. Worship and serve with other Christians in a church where Christ is preached.

God bless you as you do.
